Guitar World : Have you ever considered a Paul Reed Smith?
D : Sure, I’d like to own a PRS, but I’m happy with my collection of Fender Stratocasters. I’ve got a 1972 sunburst that’s all original, a tangerine deluxe with S-1 switching, a Mexican ’57 RI and a couple other projects where I’ve loaded them up with deluxe locking tuners and noiseless pickups.
Guitar World : Any other guitars worth mentioning?
D : Well I’m the original owner of a 1977 Gibson RD Artist. It’s a cool concept with the integrated MOOG electronics, but way too heavy to gig with. I’ve got a Zakk Wylde Les Paul, a honey burst L.P., a cherry Epiphone L.P., a Jackson Randy Rhoads V… Schecter, Washburn, ummm a crazy machine gun Hondo made in the early ‘80’s.
Guitar World : Any acoustics?
D : Oh yeah, Ovation made this awesome metallic orange flame Elite T for Guitar Center. Damn, I was just on the Ovation site and see they have a purple and yellow tribal design one now. I also have the ugly Tangent blue surf board looking one. I’ve got a metallic green Washburn festival series and a cheap 12 string Fender with a Dean Markley under the bridge pickup. Yeah, that one is a real player.
Guitar World : Any other hobbies?
D : Lot’s of traveling. Last month I went to Atlantic City and played poker, Texas hold ‘em, Black Jack, slots, 7 card stud … until I lost all my money. I hit some wineries on the way over to Snowshoe Mountain, WV. God, that’s some pretty country over that way. I guess now that I’m home I’ll have to entertain myself with on line gambling and break bones without being strapped to a snowboard. It’s probably warm enough to ride my Screaming Eagle Harley Davidson and do some damage if I run it into a power pole. UGH.
Guitar World : Enough death and destruction. What kind of pre amps and electronics do you use?
D : Let’s see … well of course there’s my TSL 100 Marshall, a Line 6 amp, **laughs** I’ve got an original crate, you know the one with the pinewood casing. I’ve got an original MXR distortion. Honestly, I can’t believe it still functions after 30 years. Ibanez Tube Screamer, sweet. Morley wah wah / volume and some other junk. For recording I use a Digitech GNX floorboard. It’s just too complicated to use live, but it’s great if you need unlimited effects.
